Cutting Guide: 2″ Hexagons from a Fat 16th

One of our sweet customers contacted us recently contacted us to ask “What is the most efficient way to cut 2 inch hexagons from a fat 16th?” and it inspired a new series we’ll be sharing throughout the year – cutting guides!

How you place your shapes within the fabric you have available really depends on how you are using your hexagons and how you plan to use your leftovers.

Here’s three ways you can fit your 2 inch hexagons into a fat 16th:

LAYOUT A – Place your hexagons like this and you will get 6 full hexagons leaving diamonds and triangles in the negative space that could be used for another project.

LAYOUT B – This layout will give you 5 full hexagons + 2 vertical half hexagons, leaving you with strips in the negative space that could be used for another project.

LAYOUT C – This layout will give you 5 full hexagons + 2 vertical half hexagons + 3 horizontal half hexagons, leaving minimal scraps

Which way do you use? Or do you have a different way to fit your hexies into a fat 16th? Let us know in the comments below.
